The Labour Court recommended that Dublin County Council drop a proposed one-week suspension for a worker who drove a refuse vehicle with a damaged tyre, and reassign him from driving to general operative duties for two weeks. The recommendation was signed on 2 September 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union had appealed the council's proposed penalty, which included three months off refuse-driving duties. The court said a penalty was warranted but the proposal was too severe. It did not recommend payment for days when the worker refused an official instruction.
