The Labour Court recommended that Harris Calorific Ireland Limited introduce National Programme terms from 1 January 1988 and pay a £100 lump sum to workers covered by a wage-round claim from the Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland. The lump sum was to be paid in two £50 instalments in December 1988 and June 1989. The recommendation was signed on 20 July 1988. The union sought an earlier start date and compensation for the period from May 1987. The company proposed introducing the terms from 1 March 1988 and said it could not afford retrospective payments.
