In 1988, the Labour Court found that Gallaher (Dublin) Limited erred by proceeding with a job-evaluation scheme before discussing the revised evaluation committee's composition with The Manufacturing, Science And Finance Union. The recommendation, signed on 4 July 1988, followed the union's objection to changes in the committee for managers' evaluations. The Court recommended completing the current exercise and holding a joint meeting of executives, MSF and non-MSF personnel to agree future policy. The company said its approach preserved representation for union and non-union managers.
