In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding a Cork Operative Butchers’ Society claim for a personal plus payment for a butcher at Roches Stores. The recommendation was signed on 18 March 1988. The Society said the worker earned less than colleagues and sought a personal plus payment. Roches Stores argued that his earnings did not exceed the new basic rate when it was introduced in 1984, so he was not entitled to the payment. The Court cited the circumstances of the case and the way plus payments arose in declining to recommend the claim.
