In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that the Post Office Officials' Association (P.O.O.A.) await and accept the outcome of ongoing negotiations over acting night supervisors' duties and promotion pay at Telecom Eireann. The recommendation was signed on 25 November 1987. The association claimed that a commitment to continuous supervisory duties had been broken and sought retrospective pay for eight officers from when they first filled vacant posts in an acting capacity. Telecom Eireann denied breaching an agreement and said the effective dates of promotions were under discussion with the recognised union.
