In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding a claim by five workers for £5,000 each over their pension and redundancy entitlements at Bord Na Mona. Its recommendation was signed on 6 July 1987. The Federated Workers' Union of Ireland and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union argued that management projections had misled the workers about their pension benefits before they volunteered for redundancy. Bord Na Mona disputed the claim. Both sides agreed that the workers received their full entitlements under the Superannuation Scheme. The Court found conflicting evidence about how the information supplied related to the workers’ questions about early-retirement entitlements. It concluded that the workers had not been unfairly treated and did not recommend conceding the claim.
