Labour Court recommends 4% pay rise at Tool & Plastic

The Labour Court recommended that Tool & Plastic offer a 4% pay increase to about 20 workers under the 26th wage round. It also recommended a review of wages six months later in light of the company's trading position. The recommendation was signed on 29 May 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers Union had sought a 10% increase, saying workers' pay was below rates at other plastics companies. Tool & Plastic said it was breaking even and that higher labour costs could require price increases and weaken its competitiveness.
