In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Clondalkin Partitions Limited and the Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union wait for the company’s annual accounts, due in April, before negotiating the union’s 26th wage-round claim. The recommendation was signed on 6 April 1987. The claim covered a pay increase, allowances, annual leave and a shorter working week for 23 general workers. The union cited lay-offs, redundancies and reduced take-home pay. Clondalkin Partitions said difficult trading conditions prevented it from making a concession at that time. If direct negotiations failed after the accounts were issued, the Court said it would rehear the case and make a more specific recommendation.
