The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union’s claim against Aer Lingus over its failure to recall a seasonal worker for the 1986 season. The recommendation was signed on 13 March 1987. The worker had held seasonal jobs as a part-time operative and a cleaner before applying unsuccessfully for a permanent position in 1986. The union argued an agreement gave suitable seasonal staff recall rights. Aer Lingus said seasonal work did not guarantee future employment and recruitment arrangements had operated with union agreement since 1979. The Court said practice since 1980 indicated tacit agreement to those arrangements and found the company had acted reasonably.
