In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend that Anco - The Industrial Training Authority concede the Federated Workers’ Union of Ireland’s claim for AnCO staff to work in the Loughlinstown Training Centre canteen. The recommendation was signed on 7 January 1987. The Court was satisfied that letters exchanged in 1983 established an understanding that AnCO staff would staff the canteen, and that AnCO later indicated it would not implement it. Anco - The Industrial Training Authority cited funding pressures, its existing catering contract and a priority of protecting current jobs. The Court said there might be valid reasons for continuing to use a contractor, but urged AnCO to provide the union with more information about comparative costs.
