The Labour Court recommended that the Commissioners of Irish Lights’ proposals on subsistence allowances for lighthouse tender ratings be accepted. The recommendation was signed on 17 December 1986. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union had sought parity with tender officers for 104 ratings. The Commissioners said the ratings had retained their previous rate until the Irish rate became more favourable and disputed their entitlement to the officers’ rates.
