The Labour Court recommended that Telecom Eireann pay Eamonn J. Byrne £500 after a mistaken redeployment offer was withdrawn. The recommendation was signed on 10 December 1986. Byrne, a night telephonist, accepted an offer to become a Technician Class II at Belcamp Exchange. Telecom Eireann later found that his grade-entry date had been recorded as 13 April 1971 instead of 13 April 1981, making him appear higher on the seniority list than he was. It withdrew the offer. The Court found the appointment had resulted from a bona fide mistake and that Byrne had suffered no financial loss. It said he and his family had experienced genuine upset and disappointment, and recommended the £500 compensation for that reason.
