The Labour Court recommended that Calor Kosangas Limited provide a company car or car allowance to a worker who was the only manager in his peer group without one. The recommendation was signed on 5 November 1986. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union (A.C.T.S.S.) sought the benefit for an Industrial Sales Administration Manager in the Commercial Department. It said he was the only manager in his peer group without a car or allowance. Calor Kosangas Limited said the benefit was discretionary and depended in part on whether a car was needed for the work. The Court found the company's allocation of cars and allowances was haphazard and considered that the worker had been discriminated against because his peers received the benefit. It recommended conceding the union's claim.
