WRC recommends €9,295 compensation after worker’s probationary dismissal

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that an employer pay a worker €9,295 after finding his probationary dismissal procedurally flawed. The recommendation, dated 22 June 2026, also calls for the employer to introduce a probation policy that complies with the Code of Practice on Grievance and Disciplinary Procedures. The worker said he was dismissed in retaliation for raising bullying concerns. The officer found the employer responded promptly to his May complaint and arranged mediation, but did not manage his probation in a structured way or clearly tell him his job was at risk. The worker was not given a warning or a right of appeal. The employer did not attend the hearing.
