The WRC recommended that a worker use the pension dispute process and refer his complaint to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman over an employer’s pension administration error. The recommendation was dated 11 May 2026.
The employer acknowledged that the worker had been enrolled in the wrong pension scheme when he started in 2004, leaving €15,804.90 in underpaid employee contributions for the period to 28 February 2023. The worker’s record was corrected from 1 March 2023.
The worker said he had no way of knowing about the error and sought urgent action after it came to light. The employer said it could not waive or pay the contributions on his behalf and had given him repayment options.
The adjudicator found delay by both parties in addressing the issue. She said a WRC industrial relations recommendation was not a realistic route for the legal and financial redress sought, and noted that a specialist pension complaints process was available.
The WRC recommended that the worker use the employer’s internal pension dispute procedure if needed and refer the matter to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman.
