The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that an employer pay a retired worker €15,000 in a once-off, confidential settlement of a dispute over recognition of prior service for pay purposes. The recommendation was dated 23 June 2026.
The worker sought revised salary arrangements for earlier service with another public service employer. The employer said it had made a reasonable offer under the policy then in place, which the worker declined, and that later arrangements were not retrospective.
The WRC said the exceptional circumstances included prolonged engagement, changing administrative positions and the unresolved issue at retirement. It recommended the payment in full and final settlement, on a strictly case-specific and non-precedential basis.
