WRC recommends €1,700 to settle worker’s expenses dispute

The WRC recommended that an employer pay a worker €1,700 to settle an expenses dispute, finding merit in his claim that inadequate break facilities at his assigned station caused additional costs. The recommendation was dated 14 March 2025. The worker claimed €3,531.01 in expenses through March 2024. The employer said alternative facilities had been available at a neighbouring station since November 2023 and management had not approved the expenses. The WRC found that the worker had incurred additional expenses but said their extent was difficult to assess. It recommended €1,700 in full and final settlement, for expenses rather than earnings.
