The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a university pay a worker €1,500 compensation for its handling of a grievance appeal. The recommendation was dated 21 August 2024.
The worker, a technical assistant grade 2, sought regrading to technician, saying he performed duties outside his role. The university argued regrading was a collective matter requiring Department of Education approval and a job evaluation scheme.
The adjudication officer said regrading in the worker’s sector and grade was a collective matter, so an individual regrading recommendation would undermine existing agreements. The officer also found the university’s response to the successful stage 2 grievance outcome “inappropriate and unnecessarily adversarial”.
The recommendation was for the university to pay €1,500 compensation for its handling of the grievance appeal.
