The WRC recommended €10,000 for a sales assistant dismissed without fair procedures after being accused of involvement in missing cash. Adjudication Officer Breiffni O’Neill dated the recommendation 27 May 2025.
The worker said she was accused of theft after an envelope of cash went missing, then told the business was closing. On 2 June 2023, the employer informed her she was dismissed for gross misconduct but did not specify the actions behind the allegation. The employer did not attend the hearing. O’Neill found the worker had not been given a fair chance to contest the allegations or receive a fair hearing. Taking into account that she took 20 weeks to find another job, he recommended that the employer pay €10,000 in full and final settlement.
