The Workplace Relations Commission recommended €5,000 compensation after finding it unacceptable that a workplace investigation took 27 months to conclude. The recommendation was dated 14 February 2024.
The worker said the investigation into her complaint under the employer’s Dignity at Work policy took more than two years and breached the policy. The employer cited a ransomware attack, pandemic-related pressures and the investigator’s illness, and said it had taken protective measures and kept the worker informed.
The officer found that the delay was unfair to both the worker and the person she had complained about. He recommended that the employer pay €5,000 in settlement for the delay in handling the complaint; the recommendation does not determine whether sexual harassment occurred.
