The WRC recommended that a health service provider pay a worker €8,500 after finding he was unfairly treated in a recruitment process. The recommendation was dated 12 August 2024.

The worker challenged the panel for a Trainee Plaster Technician post because a consultant on it had been involved in a dispute over theatre equipment. His first appeal led to a new interview panel. After he objected again, the provider said panel members had signed conflict-of-interest forms and the interview process was fair.

The officer found the worker had complained about the second interview within the required timeline. The provider had promised to appoint an investigator but did not do so, and the CPSA closed its file without the provider’s report. The officer found the provider had not adequately addressed the worker’s concern about a consultant’s perceived conflict, given that similar concerns had led to the first panel being replaced. She recommended €8,500 in full and final settlement, noting that the worker had placed third on the panel and was unlikely to get the post.
