WRC recommends back pay for former general operative

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a medical products manufacturer pay a former general operative the back pay he would have received if still employed when payments were processed. The recommendation was dated 29 August 2023. The worker left the company the day after SIPTU members accepted a pay deal. The deal provided increases of 2.5% backdated to 1 March 2021 and 3% backdated to 1 March 2022. The company said back pay was payable only to employees still working on the payment date. The officer said the agreed higher rates applied to work already done and recommended that the worker not be excluded from the back pay. He had estimated the amount at €3,100.
