WRC makes no recommendation on relief-supervisor assignments

The Workplace Relations Commission made no recommendation on a worker’s dispute over reduced opportunities to act as a relief supervisor in a local authority’s Waste Management Department. The recommendation was dated 22 January 2024. The worker’s union said he expected acting-up opportunities under the previous arrangement and that the change caused financial loss and affected his promotion prospects. The local authority said it introduced a panel to allocate the work transparently; the worker ranked below two others and continued to receive some assignments. The officer said that, without a policy, agreement or established practice, the authority could decide how to fill day-to-day cover.
