WRC recommends internal procedures over leave dispute at local authority

The WRC recommended that a worker and a local authority exhaust internal procedures over a change to applications for annual and union leave. Adjudication officer Seamus Clinton’s recommendation was dated 18 December 2023. The worker’s representative said the process had changed without consultation and that the worker lost €400 in wages after being marked absent without authorisation. The authority objected that no grievance had been submitted first. Clinton said the issue could then be referred to the WRC as an individual or collective matter, as the union saw fit.
