WRC recommends €6,500 for delay in workplace adjustments

By Rory Hanlon

The WRC recommended that an employer pay a worker €6,500 for an unexplained delay in implementing occupational health recommendations, in a recommendation dated 8 April 2024. The adjudicator found that the employer accepted there had been a delay. The worker had used all his annual leave before taking 20 weeks of certified sick leave. The WRC also recommended removing references to depression and PTSD from the worker’s file and taking a flexible approach to sick leave if he is diagnosed with a serious illness while rebuilding his entitlement to full paid leave. It did not recommend a retrospective change to his sick-leave record.
