The WRC recommended that a bank pay €4,000 to an assistant manager after finding it failed to notify him that increases to his income protection payments had stopped. The recommendation was dated 22 February 2024.
The worker had received payments under the Income Continuance Plan since 2008. He said a booklet and an email led him to expect annual increases linked to inflation, up to 5%. The bank said the plan could be changed and introduced CPI-linked increases capped at 3% from April 2023.
The WRC found the bank could amend the plan with notice, but had not told the worker about the absence of increases between 2008 and 2023. It recommended €4,000 in full and final settlement and that the worker accept the revised terms, including increases capped at 3%.
