WRC rejects worker’s claim over dental hygienist recruitment competition

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a worker accept she was unsuccessful in a senior dental hygienist recruitment competition, finding no evidence of unfairness or irregularity. The recommendation was dated 19 December 2023. The worker placed second on the panel and believed she should have been appointed to one of two posts. The employer said candidates could apply only for the dental area where they worked, and a panel place was not a job offer. The WRC found the worker had been told how posts would be filled and ranked second for the post in her area; the candidate ranked first accepted it.
