WRC recommends €2,000 for four-year grievance delay

The WRC recommended that a county council pay a general operative €2,000 after finding a four-year delay in deciding his grievance was unreasonable. The recommendation was dated 14 February 2024.

The worker said he had received no formal decision on a grievance begun on 6 December 2019 and sought a timetable and compensation. The council accepted that no decision had issued and attributed the delay to Covid and internal staff changes.

The WRC recommended that the council decide the first stage of the grievance within three weeks and complete any further stages within three months if the worker pursued them. It also recommended €2,000 compensation for the delay.
