The WRC recommended that a security company pay a worker €672 for one week’s notice and refund €120 deducted for her uniform. In a recommendation dated 9 January 2025, it also called for a review of the company’s contract terms. The worker said she had not received notice pay and had been charged for uniform items she offered to return. The company accepted that its termination letter gave one week’s notice, although its contract also said notice was not required during the first 13 weeks. The adjudicator found she could reasonably expect payment for the notice given. The adjudicator found the uniform included protective equipment, whose cost should not have been deducted. The WRC also recommended reviewing the contract terms on notice and zero-hours work, with particular regard to the Organisation of Working Time Act.
