WRC rejects remote-work complaint over missing written request

The Workplace Relations Commission found Dienifer Taylor’s complaint against Microchip Technology Ireland Limited not well-founded. The decision was dated 1 November 2024. Taylor sought to move from two days of hybrid work to full-time remote work, citing a 150-kilometre commute each working day. The company said it had not received a written request. The WRC found that the law required a written, signed request to the employer and that an application to the WRC did not meet that requirement. It said its role was to check whether the statutory process had been followed, not to decide whether full-time remote work was appropriate.
