The Workplace Relations Commission has ordered Sk Biotek Ireland Ltd. to pay Shannon Reina €500 compensation after finding her complaint about unpaid statutory sick leave well founded. The decision was dated 18 March 2025. Reina complained that she was not paid for certified sick leave in May 2024. The company disputed her entitlement, saying its in-house scheme was more favourable than statutory sick pay. The adjudication officer found that Reina had been excluded from that scheme for six months, leaving her covered by statutory sick pay for the May absence.
