The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Rafael Andrade Jorge’s complaint against Centric Mental Health over the handling of his request to return to fully remote work. The decision was dated 9 October 2024. Jorge said his contract provided for fully remote work and that travelling from Tralee to Dublin each month was unreasonable. The employer said office attendance supported communication and business needs, and reduced its proposal from two days a week to one day a month, with travel expenses and a lunch allowance. The adjudication officer said the WRC could assess the process for refusing the request, but not the merits of the employer’s decision. The officer found the employer had considered both sides’ needs and followed the required process. No monetary award was recorded.
