The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Gerard Doyle’s minimum-notice complaint against Ampleforth Limited Fitzwilliam Hotel. The decision was dated 24 January 2024. Doyle, who had worked at the hotel for more than 15 years, said it had agreed to pay him eight weeks’ notice when he resigned in July 2023 but paid only four. The hotel said he resigned voluntarily and had no entitlement to paid notice, but it paid him eight weeks in recognition of his long service. Doyle did not attend the hearing, citing ill health. The officer noted that he had not requested a postponement or provided medical certificates. The officer said the Act provides for minimum notice when an employer terminates a worker’s employment. Doyle had not given evidence to contradict the hotel’s account that he resigned and received eight weeks’ pay. The complaint was found not well founded.
