Worker’s protected-disclosure complaint fails at WRC

By Cathal Brosnan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The WRC found that a worker’s protected-disclosure penalisation complaint was not well founded. The decision was dated 31 May 2024.

The worker said concerns about seniority and shift changes were followed by bullying and other negative treatment. The employer denied penalisation and said the worker’s 2023 disclosure was handled confidentially.

The WRC found that the 2021 communications concerned personal employment issues and did not disclose relevant wrongdoing. It also found no causal link between the later disclosure and an instruction to take annual leave, which came before the worker contacted the employer’s protected-disclosure office.
