The Workplace Relations Commission awarded chef Louis Ned Kinsley Auguste €895 in compensation after finding that Dillinger’s Restaurant Limited should have paid an additional allowance for his Sunday work. The decision, dated 3 November 2023, also found eight other complaints not well founded. Auguste worked as a chef and later head chef for the respondent, leaving in February 2022. He complained about Sunday work, wages, rest breaks, working hours, holiday and public holiday pay, race discrimination, his employment terms and parental-leave penalisation. The officer considered the final four months of his employment. The officer set the Sunday allowance at €6.58 an hour and based the compensation on 17 Sundays at eight hours each. The other complaints, covering the remaining issues, were found not well founded.
