The Workplace Relations Commission said it had no jurisdiction to hear John Walsh’s complaint against the Minister for Social Protection over a shortfall in statutory redundancy benefits. The decision was dated 30 August 2023; the merits were not decided. Walsh had worked for the Roadbridge Group in Ireland and later in the UK. He said his UK redundancy benefits did not include his earlier Irish service, despite an assurance that his service would be preserved. At the hearing, he accepted that he had not applied to the Minister for a benefit under the Act. The WRC said the matter had not first been referred to the Minister and was not properly before it.
WRC says it cannot hear John Walsh’s insolvency benefit complaint
