WRC orders Cadden Farm Supplies to pay Claire McGinn €250 over annual leave

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Cadden Farm Supplies Ltd to pay Claire McGinn €250 in compensation and provide her entitlement to 20 days’ annual leave. The decision was dated 2 March 2023. McGinn, who had worked for the company since 2007, sought payment for 20 days’ leave for 2021. She said she had been admitted to hospital in December 2020 and later resigned after receiving little contact from her employer during her sick leave. The company said it believed employees receiving illness benefit while off sick were not entitled to holiday leave. The adjudication officer found the annual leave complaint well founded and ruled that the company had breached the Organisation of Working Time Act. McGinn had worked a four-day week of up to 28 hours.
