The WRC recommended that a retired nurse’s pension entitlement and lump sum be adjusted to include her time in a pre-retirement job-sharing scheme. The recommendation was dated 5 April 2023.
The nurse argued that the scheme allowed eligible workers to job-share for up to five years, or for a shorter period before retirement, with that time counted as full-time service for pension purposes. The healthcare body argued she had to work the full five years to qualify.
The adjudicator found that workers with a retirement age of 60 could take part for a shorter period and that the circular did not require five full years. The recommendation was to apply the scheme terms covering 15 October 2018 to 5 January 2022 to the nurse and adjust her pension entitlement and lump sum accordingly.
