The WRC recommended that a healthcare service pay a paramedic €3,500 compensation for delay and complete an investigation into an allegation against him. The recommendation was dated 22 August 2023.
The worker had been redeployed while the allegation was investigated but remained in that location for two years without the investigation being completed. He said the delay and lack of information affected his family and daily life. The employer cited disruption during the Covid-19 pandemic and staff turnover.
The adjudication officer found the delay inordinate and effectively punitive, and found that the worker had not received his file or details of the allegation. The WRC recommended that the employer provide the information needed for a fair process and complete the investigation, including any appeals, in a timely manner.
