WRC awards Louise Mc Auley €1,278 for unpaid public holidays

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Louise Mc Auley €1,278 in arrears for six public holidays that ASL Airlines Ireland Limited had not shown it paid. The decision was dated 17 May 2022. The airline argued that public holidays were included in Mc Auley’s annual leave allowance. The adjudication officer found a conflict between her contract and the staff handbook that the airline had not explained, and said the employer had not proved the entitlement was paid. The officer refused to extend the time limit, limiting the claim to the period from 8 October 2020 to 7 April 2021, but found six holidays remained unpaid within that period.
