The Workplace Relations Commission found five working-time complaints by fisherman Hussein Mahmoud against Barry Kirwan were out of time, so the merits were not decided. Adjudication officer Patricia Owens dated the decision 19 July 2024. Mahmoud said he worked excessive hours and was not paid the leave and premium entitlements he claimed. Kirwan denied the allegations and argued that the complaints were outside the six-month time limit. Mahmoud sought an extension, citing his vulnerability, limited English and difficulty obtaining information. The officer found no reasonable cause to extend the deadline. The complaints concerned maximum hours, annual leave, public holidays, night hours and Sunday compensation.
