The Workplace Relations Commission found Monika Zawadzka’s age discrimination complaint against Technological University Dublin not well founded in a decision dated 7 February 2023. She said her age affected her access to the university’s occupational pension scheme while she worked as a researcher on fixed-term contracts.
Her contracts excluded her from the occupational scheme and directed her to a personal retirement savings account. The adjudicator said the exclusion was unfair, but found that researchers of any age could be excluded based on their employment status and title, so Zawadzka had not established age discrimination. About €10,000 in pension contributions intended for her had instead reverted to the funding parties.
