WRC recommends €1,500 after workplace investigation delay

The WRC recommended that an employer pay an employee €1,500 after finding that it took about 17 months to issue the findings of a dignity-at-work investigation. The decision was dated 29 July 2016. At the hearing, the report was still unavailable. The adjudication officer found the delay excessive and said no coherent explanation had been offered beyond resource pressures. Little consideration appeared to have been given to the delay’s impact on those involved. The officer also said the employee’s workplace transfer could not be treated as permanent until the report was available and considered, and that the transfer decision should then be open to review.
