Labour Court upholds £250 recommendation in Iarnrod Eireann transfer dispute

The Labour Court disallowed Iarnrod Eireann’s appeal and affirmed a £250 recommendation for a locomotive driver in a delayed transfer dispute. The decision was dated 4 December 1998. The worker, represented by the National Bus and Rail Union, transferred from Connolly station to the Fairview DART depot in March 1998 after a vacancy arose in October 1997. The union said the delay cost him earnings; the company cited difficulties outside its control. The Court considered the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation reasonable and said it should be implemented.
