In 1994, the Labour Court rejected Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that its claim fail. The decision was signed on 5 December 1994. The dispute concerned a worker transferred to a lower-rated job after returning from absence. The union argued the transfer should have been temporary and said the worker lost up to £50 a week. A. O. Smith Electric Motors said it needed the worker in the role to meet production demands during market difficulties. The Court found no grounds to amend the recommendation.
