The Labour Court recommended that Acco Ireland Limited donate to an agreed charity an amount equal to the pay lost by 13 employees suspended after a dispute over a new bagging machine. The recommendation was signed on 26 October 1994. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the suspensions breached a local agreement and workers should not suffer further pay losses. Acco Ireland Limited said its productivity agreement supported the new system and its disciplinary procedure allowed unpaid suspensions. The Court upheld the general thrust of the Rights Commissioner's recommendations but said the company should not benefit from the dispute, and amended the recommendation accordingly.
