In 1992, the Labour Court rejected appeals by J.C.M. Distribution and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, but changed a recommended pay differential for a warehouse chargehand from 10% to 8%, effective from 7 December 1992. The decision was signed that day. The union sought a differential of 30% to 40%, arguing the role carried greater responsibility and resembled warehouse supervisor posts. J.C.M. Distribution said the chargehand was adequately paid and a further increase would leave it uncompetitive. The chargehand's basic rate was £194.36 a week.
