The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation on disciplinary action against an unnamed Dublin County Council driver. The decision was signed on 8 December 1988 after the Automobile, General Engineering Mechanical Operatives Union appealed on the worker’s behalf. The Council alleged that the driver failed to report as instructed, left his route, carried an unauthorised passenger and drank while on duty; he denied the charges. The Rights Commissioner recommended a two-week suspension without pay and that he continue driving until 1 September 1989, subject to good behaviour and a performance review. The Labour Court found the recommendation reasonable and upheld it.
