In 1988, the Labour Court rejected the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's appeal concerning a worker's dismissal from Savermo Limited. The decision was signed on 16 May 1988, leaving in place a Rights Commissioner's recommendation that the dismissal was not unfair. Savermo had dismissed the worker after management received an allegation that he encouraged a till operator to take part in a fraud. The union said the worker denied wrongdoing and had not been charged after an inconclusive Garda investigation. The Court said there was not sufficient substantial evidence to alter the Rights Commissioner's recommendation.
