Labour Court upholds pre-2011 pay recommendation for worker at National University of Ireland Galway

The Labour Court upheld a recommendation that a worker at National University of Ireland Galway receive the pre-January 2011 pay scale, rejecting the university’s appeal. The decision was signed on 15 December 2014. The worker's union said her earlier public service work was in a role analogous to University Teacher. The university argued she was a new entrant and should receive the post-2011 scale, which carried a 10% pay reduction. The Court found her teaching assistant work analogous to her University Teacher role because both involved teaching chemistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
